Kira Boyd, MSPT, ATC 

Physical Therapist/Clinic Director

Kira Boyd is a founding partner and Clinic Director of Synergy Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine.  Kira is a North Carolina Licensed Physical Therapist and Certified Athletic Trainer with over a decade of clinical experience in outpatient orthopedics.  Her extensive clinical experience includes all aspects of orthopedics and sports related injuries.  She also specializes in the treatment of Women's and Men's pelvic floor dysfunction.  As a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and a Physical Therapist (PT) she has worked with patients of all ages, as well as competitive athletes at the middle school, high school, collegiate and professional level.  She served as a student athletic trainer for Division I student athletes at both the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and The University of Miami.  She began her professional physical therapy career in 2000 in New York City.

Kira is strongly committed to her own professional development and offering her patients the most effective treatment interventions.  She has pursued hundreds of hours of additional continuing education in a variety of areas, most notably sports medicine, orthopedics, manual therapy, and women’s health.  She has advanced training in many techniques including the McKenzie Method, the FMS/SFMA, Mulligan techniques, Maitland therapy, Kinesiotape, Muscle Energy, Myofascial Release, Strain/Counterstrain.   Her clinical interests include all aspects of orthopedics, hands-on manual therapy, post-surgical care, and highly functional sports injury care for patients of all ages.  She also has a strong interest in Women’s health services including, treatment of plevic floor dysfunction (with therapeutic exercise, SEMG biofeedback, and manual therapy), pre-natal and post-partum musculoskeletal complaints, breast cancer rehabilitation, female ACL injury care and prevention, frozen shoulder conditions in women, and osteoporosis management.

Sarah Teel Bennett, DPT, WCS, BCB-PMD

Physical Therapist/Director of Physical Therapy

Sarah Teel Bennett is the Director of Physical Therapy at Synergy.  She colloborates with Partners/Owners Kira and John Boyd on program development, recruitment/development of PT team members, and management of our physical therapy services.

Sarah is a North Carolina Licensed Physical Therapist with over 10 years of experience.  Sarah's professional focus is in outpatient treatment of many orthopedic conditions related to musculoskeletal dysfunctions and sport related injuries.  She works with a diverse patient population utilizing manual therapy, myofascial release techniques, muscle energy techniques, visceral and soft tissue mobilizations and neuromuscular re-education of the muscles.  

Sarah is a board certified Women's Health Clinical Specialist (WCS) trained for specific evaluation and  treatment of women's and men's health pelvic physical therapy.  She is also a board certified specialist in using biofeedback for pelvic floor muscle dysfunctions with the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCB-PMD).  Some of the types of pelvic floor dysfunctions include urinary/fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, prenatal and postpartum issues, constipation, and pelvic organ prolapse.  Sarah also has extensive training in lymphedema therapy as well as in oncology rehabilitation.  This includes the rehab during and after breast cancer, head/neck cancer, gynecological cancer, melanoma, and many others.  Sarah has a strong interest in serving her community and is a founding board member for the local non for profit Journey of Hope Cancer Support Center and the CCHC Foundation to help meet the needs of local individuals dealing with cancer.  Sarah's priority in providing physical therapy is to deliver customized treatment and education to meet each individual's needs.

Anthony Moss, DPT

Physical Therapist

Anthony Moss is a North Carolina Licensed Physical Therapist with 2 years of experience in the outpatient orthopedic setting. He specializes in general sports medicine and orthopedics, post-operative rehabilitation, and the evaluation and management of athletic injuries.  His clinical interests include the rehabilitation of recreational and competitive athletes, including but not limited to runners and overhead athletes. He frequently utilizes slow-motion video analysis for biomechanical assessment of runners to guide rehabilitation, maximize performance, and reduce injury risk.

 Anthony is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (Sports Section) and North Carolina Physical Therapy Association. He is a certified Emergency Medical Responder through the American Red Cross. He uses this training to provide volunteer services for local events and athletic competitions.

Mary Beth Daas, PT

Physical Therapist

Mary Beth is a North Carolina Licensed Physical Therapist with 19 years of experience.  She has practiced primarily in the field of orthopedics and sports medicine including general orthopedics, musculoskeletal disorders, pre- and post-operative rehabilitation, work injuries, spinal disorders related to injury and/or the aging process, osteoporosis treatment and management, and TMJ disorders.  

Mary Beth’s professional focus is on the most effective treatment options to help her patients meet their personal functional and mobility goals.  She utilizes a multitude of manual therapy treatment options including myofascial release, IASTM, Strain Counter-Strain, McKenzie, Williams, Mulligan, Hesch and Muscle Energy Techniques, Kinesiotaping and McConnell taping techniques, and neuromuscular re-education to promote improved healing.  She also emphasizes the importance of posture and proper body mechanics including ergonomic recommendations for home and work to prevent future injuries.

Her most recent certification is a new treatment option available to patients called Trigger Point Dry Needling (TDN) which is the utilization of a monofilament needle into a trigger point (knot in a muscle) to relieve pain and tension, promote blood flow, and improve flexibility.

Elizabeth Windsor, DPT

Physical Therapist

Elizabeth “Liz” Windsor is a North Carolina Licensed Physical Therapist with clinical experience in the outpatient orthopedics setting. She works with patients across the lifespan with musculoskeletal dysfunction with special clinical interests in neck and back pain, work related injury and recovery, and chronic pain. She often utilizes a variety of manual therapy techniques including instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation and myofascial release for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain. She has strong clinical interest for and plans to achieve further training in Maitland therapy, kinesiotaping, dry needling, and SFMA for the treatment of orthopedic conditions.

 Liz is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the North Carolina Chapter. She has a passion for the use of physical therapy as a form of service to communities around Eastern North Carolina through volunteer work, and outside the U.S. with experience in medical outreach in the Dominican Republic.

Bridget Littrell, DPT

Physical Therapist

Bridget Littrell is a North Carolina and Arkansas licensed Physical Therapist with clinical experience in outpatient and pelvic health settings. Her professional focus is in pelvic health and sports related injuries. Bridget utilizes several treatment techniques, including but not limited to, manual therapy, myofascial release, soft tissue mobilizations, neuro re-education, and kinesiology taping. 

Bridget works with a diverse population specifically with patients that have pelvic floor muscle dysfunctions such as pelvic pain, fecal/urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, prenatal and postpartum issues, and constipation. She is currently working toward several certifications in these areas including board certified Women's Health Clinical Specialty and biofeedback certifications. 

Bridget is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the North Carolina Chapter, and the Section of Women's Health. She has a strong interest in serving the community through volunteer work.

Justin Losciale, DPT, CSCS

Physical Therapist

Justin Losciale is a North Carolina licensed Physical Therapist with clinical experience in orthopedic settings and post-operative management of the shoulder, knee, hip and ankle.  His clinical interests include movement retraining to optimize performance, function and decrease pain and reduce injury risk.  Justin utilizes various treatment techniques to include Manual Therapy, IASTM, and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS).  He is currently a Research Assistant with the Michael W. Krzyzewski Human Performance Laboratory (Duke Sport Sciences Institute).

Injury prevention is another clinical interest of his and has worked alongside Liberty Baseball team, Wake Forest Men’s Basketball, NC State Men’s/Women’s Swimming/Diving, Men’s/Women’s Basketball and will also be working in the future with Duke Men's Basketball.  He was able to create a Duke University wide Injury Prevention Program called Movement Physicals.

Justin is a member of the Ortho, Sport and Research sections of the American Physical Therapy Assocation and the North Carolina Physical Therapy Association.  He would like to get further training in DNS education, SFMA, McKenzie Method and Mulligan Technique.

Maria Lotan, LAT, ATC, PES

Head Rehabilitation Technician/Certified Athletic Trainer

Maria is a graduate from Michigan State University where she double majored in Athletic Training and Kinesiology. Having graduated she is now looking at getting her Strength and Conditioning certification as well as going towards her masters degree in the future. After growing up in Michigan, Maria moved down to North Carolina after her husband was stationed here. She was an athlete all through high school and was a part of MSU's Crew team her freshman year. 

Maria has recently been promoted to Head Rehab Technician and assists with the clinical support staff.

Kate Gadsby

Rehabilitation Technician

Kate graduated from White Oak High School.  She has had various retail and service experience in the Jacksonville area.  Kate also has experience in the Child Care Industry and was a Personal Nanny for families in Jacksonville.  Most recently Kate attended the Carteret Community College, and received her certification in the Physical Therapy Technician program.

Sara Beams, CPT, OES

Marketing Assistant

Sara is a graduate from University of Wisconsin - La Crosse where she received her Bachelors of Science in Exercise and Sports Science.  Sara is a native of Wisconsin and comes to Eastern NC with her husband who is stationed here through the military.  She played softball in high school and was involved with co-ed volleyball in college.  Sara completed her Personal Training Certification along with her Orthopedic Exercise Specialist Certification with the American Council on Exercise.  She has worked as a rehab techinician and fitness specialist and enjoys working in the health and fitness field.

Sara has recently taken a position working as our clinic's Marketing Assistant.

Samantha Morris, MS, CIFT

Rehabilitation Technician/Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer


Samantha is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia where she received her Masters in Kinesiology.  She has an undergraduate degree from Huntingdon College where she was the captain of her volleyball team.  Samantha also holds a certification from the American College of Sports Medicine as a Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer.  She loves being active and enoys being outside with her two dogs, Norma Jean and Winston.  She was born and raised in Stockbridge, Georgia and loves being near the coast!

Samantha recently started teaching our Small Group Fitness and Tai Chi classes.

Shelby Wheelus

Rehabilitation Technician

Shelby graduated from the Villages Charter High School in The Villages, Florida. Throughout high school she was a member of a nationally ranked dance team as well as a member on both the track and field team and cheerleading squad. During high school she was in the health sciences academy and was able to job shadow at different physical therapy clinics. After high school she attended Lake Sumter State College in Florida where she earned her Associates degree. Shelby moved to NC after her husband was stationed here and she plans to continue her education while in NC to become a physical therapist assistant.

Kelsey Wentworth, MS, LAT, ATC, PES

Rehabilitation Technician/Certified Athletic Trainer

Kelsey is a recent graduate from California University of Pennsylvania where she received her Master's Degree in Athletic Training. While completing her Master's degree, she worked as Head Athletic Trainer for Burgettstown High School just outside the city of Pittsburgh.  Kelsey previously received her Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training at Frostburg State University where she was a four year college soccer player. Kelsey's research was focused on the Gluteus Medius effect on SIJ and the prevention of concussions in youth sports. After growing up in Virginia Beach, Kelsey moved down to North Carolina after her fiance was stationed here. She was an athlete all through high school and was a part of FSU's Womens Soccer team as well as captain her senior year.  Kelsey looks forward to working towards her strength and conditioning certification.

Matt Davis

Rehabilitation Technician

Born and raised in Richlands, North Carolina, I graduated from Richlands High School in 2011 and then attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.  During my years in college I became a 6-time First Team All-American Placekicker for the football team and received the Fred Mitchell Award for being recognized as the best placekicker in the nation outside of Division I.  I graduated from UNC Pembroke Cum Laude with a pre-physical therapy degree and plan to further my education in the future by earning my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. My career aspirations when I get my doctorate include working with wounded military veterans as well as those who have received amputations and/or prosthesis.

Tori Graham

Rehabilitation Technician

Tori is a native of South Carolina. She has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina. After graduating, she was hired by the University as a research assistant, where she conducted research throughout the state with a focus on childhood nutrition and physical activity. Tori has recently relocated to Jacksonville after her husband was stationed aboard Camp Lejeune. She is currently pursuing a Yoga Instructor Certification and looks to begin teaching classes by the end of the year.

Melissa Maddox, LMT

Licensed Massage Therapist

Melissa is a North Carolina licensed massage therapist that has joined our team.  Melissa is a military spouse , whose husband was stationed back to North Carolina after spending 6 years on the west coast.  She graduated from Massage Therapy School from Moscow, Idaho in 2006.  She has a passion for helping people reach whatever goals they've set out for themselves.  She has numerous training in Swedish, Deep Tissue, Trigger point Therapy, PreNatal, and Sports Massage.  Melissa is sure to take care of your Massage Therapy needs!

John is a founding partner and Business Manager of Synergy Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine.  John has over 20 years of Sales and Marketing experience spanning several industries including banking, finance, fertilizer, contract packaging, medical, insurance and consulting.  In the 8 years prior to starting Synergy John was active in the insurance industry dealing with individual and group health benefits including Medicare and private insurance carriers.

Orginally from Florida, Dawn has recently moved back to the Jacksonville, NC area after living in Greenville, SC for the last 20 years.  She lived in Greenville, North Carolina for a few years and worked at the ECU School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine.  When living in Greenville, SC she coached soccer at the middle school level as well as for CESA for 8 years in Greenville, SC.  She also currently volunteers at the Colonial Capital animal shelter in New Bern.

Alexis Hatfield is a native of Jacksonville, NC. She received a degree as a Health & Fitness Specialist from East Carolina University. 

Alexis completed her personal trainer certification through the American College of Sports Medicine and was actively involved in Synergy’s health and wellness programs. Her interest and passion for rehab derived from playing competitive travel soccer for many years resulting in injury which made her a patient of physical therapy herself. “Assisting people with injuries as well as injury prevention is a passion of mine.”

Alexis has worked as a Rehab Tech for our clinic for 3+ years and has now transitioned into the Patient Care Coordinator position.

Haley Sandquist

Patient Care Coordinator

Haley is a graduate of University of North Carolia at Chapel Hill where she earned her Bachelors in Arts in Exercise and Sport Science.  Her passion for Sports Science began at a young age and led her to play soccer at Cape Fear Community College while she earned her Associates in Science.  Haley has worked as a Rehabilitation Technician since graduating from UNC in 2013, but she has recently transitioned to the position of Patient Care Coordinator.  This transition is due to her wanting to learn about all aspects of Physical Therapy to help her attain her goal of becoming a Physical Therapist.

Elena Zuzek

Patient Care Coordinator

Elena is a recent graduate of West Chester University of Pennsylvania. It was there that she received her bachelors degree in exercise science. Elena's passion for sports rehabilitation and exercise stems from her many years of playing organized sports, which she continues to do today. She is currently working towards her  ACE Personal Training Certification and eventually is looking to become a Physical Therapist Assistant.
