Sports Testing, Training, and Injury Prevention


Advanced Sports Testing & Training

At Synergy Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine, we are very concerned with the health and safety of our young athletes.  We decided that we would bring the same type of testing that is used by major colleges and professional sports teams to the Jacksonville community. 


Synergy's Sports Performance Programs

Sport specific training for the adolescent athletes

At Synergy we pride ourselves on providing our clients with services that are result oriented.  Working with numerous young athletes on a daily basis is what inspired us to create a U-18 Sports Performance Enhancement Program.  Our program is unique because it is medically based and constructed from the collaboration of a Licensed Physical Therapist and Certified Personal Trainer. 

This sports oriented program is designed for all athletes, targeting their every need, whether returning to play, performance enhancement, sport specific fundamental training or speed and agility training.

Part 1: The Fitness Assessment

Each athlete will undergo a fitness assessment that is given by a Physical Therapist & Personal Trainer. Depending upon your goals and current status, you will choose the assessment that best suits your needs.  All assessments will begin with a consultation with the Physical Therapist & Personal Trainer.


Return to Play Screening & Assessment

RTP Assessment is designed for athletes with prior injuries that are transitioning from physical therapy to sport specific training. Our program will measure and identify movement asymmetries or major limitations in functional movement patterns, testing an athlete's risk for injury. RTP can help you regain your competitive edge, maximizing your athletic potential in a medically supervised environment.

Sports - Fit Assessment

The SF Assessment is intended for athletes in pursuit of optimal performance and increasing personal development. Through a combination of fitness testing, functional movement screenings, and biomechanical analysis, we will create individualized programs that work with an athlete's functional strengths and weaknesses to maximize performance and prevent injury.

Part 2: The Program

Following the initial assessment, the Physical Therapist & Personal Trainer collaborate and design your personalized program, taking into consideration any prior injuries and health concerns.


  • Enhance skill development & execution
  • Increase foot speed
  • Increase reaction speed
  • Increase functional strength
  • Increase vertical leap
  • Improve agility
  • Prevent Injury

Note:  The Sports Performance Program can be done individually or in groups from 2 to 4 participants.




Performance Enhancement Injury Risk Reduction

There are approximately 150,000 ACL injuries each year in the United States.  There has been little change in these injury rates over the past 10 years.  Female athletes participating in soccer and basketball are 2 to 8 times more likely to suffer an ACL injury compared to their male counterparts. It is also estimated that 1 in 4 of these individuals will go on to a second knee injury on their “bad” or “good” knee.

Responding to what we see as an epidemic in our area, Synergy Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine is going to be implementing a Performance Enhancement / ACL Injury Prevention Program. 

The goals will be to:

  • Enhance Athleticism
  • Improve Deceleration
  • Teach Proper Landing Mechanics
  • Identify Poor Movement
  • Eliminate Muscle Imbalances
  • Reduce the Risk of Injury
